Baby Swaddle Science

Am I swaddling too tightly?

Swaddling your baby in the right position, with the right amount of compression, is easy with the Swaddlou double swaddle. The inner arm wrap gently positions your baby's hands down, while the stretchy zipped sack gives your baby gentle swaddling compression that stretches as your baby grows. The final Swaddlou touch is the outer wrap, which allows you to add additional swaddling security for your growing baby from below the shoulders to above the hips, a shoulder and hip healthy swaddling design as recommended by the AAP. A good swaddle should be snug, but not too tight. You should be able to put 2 or 3 fingers between the baby's chest and the swaddle.

Although you won't need all the security your Swaddlou has to offer right away, it won't take long before you do, and getting your baby accustomed to their Swaddlou as soon as possible is a good idea!

Swaddlou safely double swaddles babies.

A well swaddled baby is a safely swaddled baby. Designed to conform to the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) for babies 0 – 6 months who are not yet showing signs of rolling over, Swaddlou is a secure, safe, hands-down swaddle, with a shoulder healthy (below-the-shoulder) outer-wrap, and a generously sized hip-healthy lower body sack that gives your baby’s hips and legs the freedom of movement recommended by The International Hip Dysplasia Institute.

The inner wrap positions your baby to sleep naturally, HANDS DOWN and SHOULDERS BACK. This relaxed, flat-back posture will make it more difficult to roll, unlike some baby swaddles that pull the baby’s shoulders and arms forward, rounding the baby's back.

Are Baby Swaddles Safe?

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) says that when done correctly, swaddling can be an effective technique to help calm infants and promote sleep. "Infant sleep clothing, such as a wearable blanket is preferred over blankets and other coverings to keep a baby warm."

Hip and Shoulder Healthy Swaddle

The Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, and the AAP Section on Orthopaedics, promotes “hip-healthy swaddling” that allows the baby’s legs to bend up and out.
