Baby Swaddle Science

Swaddlou safely swaddles babies.

A well swaddled baby is a safely swaddled baby. Designed to conform to the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) for babies 0 – 6 months who are not yet showing signs of rolling over, Swaddlou is a secure, safe, hands-down swaddle, with a shoulder healthy (below-the-shoulder) outer-wrap, and a generously sized hip-healthy lower body sack that gives your baby’s hips and legs the freedom of movement recommended by The International Hip Dysplasia Institute.

The inner wrap positions your baby to sleep naturally, HANDS DOWN and SHOULDERS BACK. This relaxed, flat-back posture will make it more difficult to roll, unlike some baby swaddles that pull the baby’s shoulders and arms forward, rounding the baby's back.

Are Baby Swaddles Safe?

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) says that when done correctly, swaddling can be an effective technique to help calm infants and promote sleep. "Infant sleep clothing, such as a wearable blanket is preferred over blankets and other coverings to keep a baby warm."

Hip and Shoulder Healthy Swaddle

The Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, and the AAP Section on Orthopaedics, promotes “hip-healthy swaddling” that allows the baby’s legs to bend up and out.
